Bringing home the bacon – 3 tips for women doing it all and making money

Over the years women have asked me “How do you do it all?”

At first I really could not answer – The owner of three businesses, I teach yoga and dance on the side, I am a mother, I have a relationship, I enjoy being social, I stay in pretty good shape…

I notice that much of the business training and business coaching out there, is NOT very family or mom friendly: “Go, go, go” and “Make it ‘till you Break!” are the underlining messages of many weekend seminars  and business coaching that I have received. The vast amounts of business training I experience does not really work for me realistically as a mom.

So a while back, I had the thought,
“I should really break down;
what I do,
how I work…
How I do it ALL -and- teach THAT to women…”

That is what I did. Over the years I have “unpacked” what I’ve learned – I got RID of the stuff that did not work – and transformed the stuff that did to match my lifestyle and MY time-frame.

So from where do I get all of this time to do all of these things? (and still honor Family Time by turning the phone and computer off in the evenings and weekends?)

Can a woman own a business(es) and thrive in the realm of holistic, sustainable and nurturing?

I have re-constituted the THOUSANDS of hours and thousands of dollars worth of business experience and training into systems, practices and workable tools that allow ANY woman – single, partnered, mother, in school, etc – to Successfully build and sustainably run her business WHILE staying connected to her intuition, her health, her heart.

Welcome!!! Please take a look around – I am a fan of GIVING everything I know away. No holds barred. This blog and website is all about sharing the wealth!

Enjoy these tools I have acquired as an Office Manager; Non-Profit Board Member; assistant Bookkeeper; a Presenter; and a Business Development and Marketing Coach.

Yes!

and if I could leave you with just 3 tips for doing it all – those would be:

these tips will actually make you money in the long run

1) ALLLLWAYYYS Honor Family Time!!!!

set allotted hour when the kids are home and away as Family Time: This means that the phone and the computer are OFF!

why? You will make the same amount of money if you work from 7am-11pm as you will if you only work 10am-5pm. I will elaborate on how this actually works to your benefit in a later post, “which I am still trying to figure out the name for!” (I am open to suggestions!)

We often think we have to make ourselves always available for our clients or our late-night internet  or email meanderings – but the truth is that making yourself always available may actually, in the long run equal earning less:

  • You are able to focus more easily and prioritize when there are boundaries around your time. Self-imposed and powerfully upheld boundaries on your time equals more productivity where it really counts – less spin-out and more experiences of “being-On”
  • You clients will book with you LESS when they think they can just book with you anytime – they will book MORE often when they know they need to take advantage of your carefully maintained and valuable time – they will actually get more out of their session with you…

2) Share tea or a meal with a friend you would like to know better, at least 2x per month

(I actually do this 1-4x per WEEK!) This will be a crucial part of your business becoming word-of-mouth later, and, if your biz is already word-of-mouth then this is also an important part of staying connected to your community, while growing your business!

When your community feels connected to you – and know that they can engage with you aside from just business – they are more likely to want to send their friends you way – who wants to send friends to someone who cannot switch gears from fun and social to business and back again? Your ability to chill with your peeps will add to your credibility and likability later.

Go out! get some sun! Drink some tea! Do these things WITH the delightful people in your life you want to know better…

In NPR’s Talk of the Nation, broadcast called “What Makes us Happy?” – the researchers explained talk about people in old age, who consider themselves to have lead Happy lives put their attention on their relationships. The elderly who looked back and did not remember happiness had had their attention only on their careers…

3) Exercise and get Massage!

I combined these two, because they go hand in hand – ultimately your greatest business ideas will happen during or just after your workout or massage.

When we drop into the state of flow in exercise r the parasympathetic response during a meditation or massage, or even a bath or shower  – our biochemistry changes – you have access to differant parts of your nervous system and of your brain. In this place you will ALWAYS come into answers for questions you are holding – and untangle tangles in you business!

Plus, who wants to blame their business for falling out of shape and feeling stressed!!!
